Omaha Hi Low: Basic Outline
Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is often times seen as one of the most complex but popular poker variations. It is a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for action from every level of players. This is the primary reason why a once irrelevant game, has grown in acceptance so quickly.
Omaha/8 starts just like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are handed out to every player. A round of wagering follows in which gamblers can wager, check, or fold. 3 cards are dealt out, this is called the flop. One more round of betting happens. Once all the players have in turn called or dropped out, an additional card is flipped on the turn. a further sequence of betting ensues and then the river card is flipped. The players will have to put together the best high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is the point where many players can get baffled. Contrasted to Texas Holdem, in which the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha hi/low the player must utilize exactly three cards on the board, and precisely two cards from their hand. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and lower. The low hand takes half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there is no low hand presented, the high hand takes the entire pot.
