Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is frequently viewed as one of the most complex but favored poker variations. It’s a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for play from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once irrelevant variation, has increased in popularity so quickly.

Omaha 8 or better starts like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are handed out to every player. A sequence of wagering ensues where players can bet, check, or drop out. Three cards are handed out, this is referred to as the flop. Another round of betting happens. After all the players have either called or dropped out, an additional card is flipped on the turn. an additional round of betting happens at which point the river card is flipped. The players will have to make the strongest high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is where a few entrants can get confused. Contrasted to Hold’em, in which the board can make up every player’s hand, in Omaha hi lo the player must use precisely three cards from the board, and precisely two cards from their hand. Not a single card more, no less. Contrary to regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot may be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It’s the strongest possible hand out of everyone’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It is the very same approach in almost every poker game.

The lower hand is more difficult, but really free’s up the action. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that could be made, with the lowest being A-2-3-4-5. Considering that straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and below. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there is no lower hand presented, the high hand takes the whole pot.

While it seems difficult at the start, after a couple of hands you will be agile enough to get the base nuances of play easily enough. Seeing as you have people wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as such a large number of cards are being used at once, Omaha 8 or better provides an amazing collection of wagering choices and because you have numerous individuals shooting for the high, along with many battling for the low hand.
