Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly seen as one of the most complex but popular poker variations. It is a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for action from every level of players. This is the chief reason why a once irrelevant game, has grown in acceptance so quickly.

Omaha/8 begins just like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are dealt to each player. A round of wagering follows where players can bet, check, or fold. 3 cards are given out, this is referred to as the flop. A further round of wagering ensues. After all the players have either called or folded, another card is revealed on the turn. a further round of wagering ensues and then the river card is revealed. The players will need to make the best high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is the point where a number of players can get flustered. Contrasted to Texas Holdem, in which the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha hi lo the player has to utilize precisely three cards on the board, and exactly 2 hole cards. Not a single card more, no less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot may be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is just what it sounds like. It is the strongest possible hand out of everyone’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the identical notion in nearly every poker game.

A lower hand is more complex, but certainly free’s up the play. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the worst hand that could be put together, with the lowest value being A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and lower. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there’s no lower hand available, the higher hand wins the whole pot.

It may seem difficult at the outset, after a few rounds you will be able to get the basic subtleties of play with ease. Seeing as you have players wagering for the low and betting for the high, and seeing as such a large number of cards are being used at once, Omaha/8 offers an exciting array of wagering possibilities and owing to the fact that you have several players trying for the high hand, as well as many battling for the low hand. If you prefer a game with a lot of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to participate in Omaha/8.
