Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is frequently seen as one of the most difficult but well-loved poker games. It’s a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for action from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once irrelevant variation, has expanded in popularity so quickly.

Omaha 8 or better begins like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are dealt to every player. A sequence of betting ensues in which players can wager, check, or drop out. Three cards are given out, this is called the flop. One more sequence of wagering ensues. After all the gamblers have either called or folded, a further card is revealed on the turn. a further round of betting follows and then the river card is revealed. The entrants must attempt to make the best high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is the point where a few players get flustered. Unlike Holdem, in which the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi-low the player has to use precisely three cards on the board, and precisely two cards from their hand. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot can be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It’s the strongest possible hand out of every player’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the same approach in almost every poker game.

A low hand is more complex, but certainly free’s up the action. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that can be made, with the lowest being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Considering that straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and smaller. The low hand takes half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there is no low hand presented, the higher hand takes the entire pot.

Although it seems complex at the start, following a few hands you will be agile enough to get the basic subtleties of the game with ease. Seeing as you have players betting for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as so many cards are in play, Omaha 8 or better offers an amazing collection of betting choices and seeing that you have several individuals shooting for the high, along with many battling for the low. If you love a game with a lot of outs and actions, it is worth your time to participate in Omaha 8 or better.
